CHICAGO — Cavanagh Law Group founder Timothy Cavanagh has been named to the 2019 Illinois Super Lawyers list.
Only the top five percent of attorneys across the state are honored on the list, which highlights lawyers who demonstrate excellence in their respective fields.
It’s the 15th consecutive year Cavanagh has been named to the nationally recognized list. He will be featured in both Chicago magazine and Super Lawyers magazine in February 2019.
Cavanagh is an experienced trial attorney who specializes in personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death cases. Since founding Cavanagh Law Group in 1997, he has obtained more than 60 verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 million.
One of Cavanagh’s biggest achievements came earlier this year with a landmark $20 million settlement in a “code of silence” case involving the Chicago Police Department. An off-duty Chicago detective killed two young men while driving drunk on a freeway in 2009.
The detective had a long history of alcohol-related offenses — including two prior car crashes — but never faced any serious consequences. During a federal court trial, Cavanagh uncovered crucial and damaging evidence that the city had failed to disclose in discovery.
Every year since 2015, Cavanagh has been selected by his peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America©. He has also been named a Leading Lawyer by the Leading Lawyers Network every year since its inception in 2003. And since 2016, Cavanagh Law Group has been included in the U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Law Firms list. The firm was given a “Tier 1” ranking.
Cavanagh lives in Chicago with his wife Stacey, a partner at Cavanagh Law Group, and their six children.
