CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Family of Woman Killed in Tinley Park Crash Sues DUI Suspect for Negligence

Cavanagh Law Group has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against 37-year- old Timothy McGuire, a drunken driver, alleging his negligence caused the death of 79-year-old Armida Reyes. On the evening of March 11, 2018, in Tinley Park, Armida Reyes was a passenger in a car driven by her son, Phillip, when McGuire, who was intoxicated and had a history of drunken driving, plowed into their vehicle killing Armida and injuring two other passengers.

The complaint alleges that on March 11, 2018, Timothy McGuire drove into Reyes’ car as it was waiting to make a left turn on 167th Street. McGuire’s vehicle was heading northbound on 80th Avenue. Sensing they were in danger of being hit, Armida Reyes told her son, “Speed up, speed up,” just before McGuire’s car slammed into them causing the fatal two-car collision. According to the complaint, McGuire was driving drunk, speeding and drove into the wrong lane of traffic when he crashed into the car. Phillip J. Reyes is a nurse and tended to his mother but could not find a pulse due to her catastrophic injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, suffering internal injuries and a broken neck.

The complaint was filed in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of Reyes’ son, Phillip J. Reyes, and her family estate.

Timothy McGuire has been criminally charged with aggravated DUI causing death and driving without insurance.
