The Cook County Board voted last week to pay $8.1 million to settle two lawsuits.
One of the settlements will cost $2.5 million and resolves a suit brought by the estate of a cyclist killed in 2013 by a Stroger Hospital executive who was driving home drunk after an office holiday party.
The other is a $5.625 million settlement in a lawsuit brought by a man who spent 15 years in prison after getting convicted of a rape and murder he didn’t commit.
