Rob Rosá v. Illinois State Toll Highway Authority

On October 9, 2025, Tim Cavanagh and Michael Sorich obtained a $104 million verdict, the largest verdict or settlement in Illinois history for a road construction case. A Cook County jury found the Illinois Toll Highway Authority liable for a single-vehicle crash that occurred in its construction zone on I-90 near the Fox River Bridge. The jury determined the Tollway was negligent in its design of the temporary traffic zone and in failing to install five of six warning signs required by safety rules, in advance of a sudden lane shift. Plaintiff Rob Rosá was rendered a quadriplegic in the crash. He and his husband, Michael Johnson, were awarded $104 million. Tim Cavanagh and Michael Sorich, partners at the firm, served as lead trial attorneys for the plaintiffs. Jason Kroot and Chris Dietmann were part of the trial team. The Honorable Scott McKenna presided over the four-week trial.
