Marc McCallister

Cavanagh Sorich Law Group partner Marc McCallister is an accomplished trial attorney with more than a decade of experience handling complex personal injury cases in Chicago and across Illinois. McCallister leverages his background in both plaintiff and defense work to fight for victims of medical malpractice, catastrophic collisions and negligent conduct. He has expertise in every area of personal injury law, including cases involving nursing home abuse, premises liability and product liability.

Recent victories include a $3 million settlement against a Chicago hospital for a 36-year-old man whose spinal condition was misdiagnosed. Delayed treatment resulted in partial paraplegia and sensory loss. In 2019, McCallister obtained a $1.6 million jury verdict for the family of a man who died at a Cook County hospital. While under the hospital’s care, the man fell and sustained a broken nose and lacerated liver. Internal bleeding went undiagnosed, and he died within 24 hours. And in a medical malpractice case against an Illinois hospital, McCallister obtained a confidential multimillion-dollar settlement for the two young children of a woman who died in childbirth following an anesthesia error.

Other results include a confidential seven-figure settlement for the family of an Illinois manufacturing plant worker who died after prolonged chemical exposure and a settlement for a woman who suffered permanent heart damage after being prematurely discharged from an emergency room.

Before joining Cavanagh Sorich Law Group in 2021, McCallister spent 14 years as a plaintiff’s attorney at two well-respected Chicago personal injury firms. He previously worked as a medical malpractice insurance defense attorney for a large insurance defense firm.

McCallister has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer every year since 2016; fewer than 5% of attorneys statewide are honored on the annual list. From 2012 to 2015, McCallister was included on the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list, which recognizes just 2.5% of Illinois lawyers under the age of 40.

McCallister holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising and marketing from Pennsylvania State University. He graduated from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he served as vice president of the Student Bar Association (SBA). He is currently a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA), the Society of Trial Lawyers and the Illinois State Bar Association. McCallister is passionate about education and serves on the board of directors of Tutoring Chicago. He has both chaired the board and served as board secretary.

McCallister and his wife, Liz, live in Wilmette with their four children. McCallister coaches his children’s teams and enjoys racquet sports and open water swimming.
