Biography

“I find listening and advocating for our clients to be incredibly rewarding; that’s why I love what I do,” says Marc McCallister, a seasoned trial attorney and partner at Cavanagh Sorich Law Group.

With more than 20 years of experience litigating complex personal injury cases throughout Chicago and Illinois, McCallister draws on a strong foundation in both plaintiff and defense work to achieve results for those harmed by medical malpractice, catastrophic accidents, and other forms of negligence. Early in his career, he defended hospitals and healthcare professionals at a large insurance defense firm, an experience that now informs his strategic approach to malpractice litigation.

McCallister has secured millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for his clients. Notable results include a $3 million settlement against a Chicago hospital for a 36-year-old man whose spinal condition was misdiagnosed, resulting in partial paraplegia and sensory loss; a $2.3 million settlement for a client injured at her son’s wedding ceremony; and a $2.2 million jury verdict for a bicyclist hit by a Chicago Police Department squad car. McCallister also won a confidential multimillion-dollar settlement in a medical malpractice case where a mother died during childbirth due to an anesthesia error, leaving behind two young children.

Recognized for his legal skill, dedication to his clients, and the community McCallister has been named to the Illinois Super Lawyers list since 2016, an honor earned by fewer than 5% of attorneys in the state. He was named a Leading Lawyer beginning in 2023 and is listed among Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers, a national distinction reserved for the top personal injury attorneys in the country. Cavanagh Sorich Law Group has maintained a Tier 1 ranking in Best Law Firms® for Personal Injury Litigation and Product Liability for more than a decade.

“You can see it in our clients, they feel the passion and the effort we put into every case,” McCallister says.

McCallister holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising and marketing from Pennsylvania State University and a law degree from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is an active member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA), the Society of Trial Lawyers, and the Illinois State Bar Association.

Dedicated to community service, McCallister won the 2023 My Hero Award for his contributions to the tutoring and mentor program Tutoring Chicago, a nonprofit providing long-term, one-on-one academic support free of charge. He has served as both board chair and secretary for the organization.

McCallister lives in Wilmette with his wife, Liz, and their four children. He enjoys racquet sports, open water swimming, and coaching his kids’ youth sports teams when time permits.
