TIM CAVANAGH NAMED TO IRISH LEGAL 100

CHICAGO — Cavanagh Sorich Law Group founder Timothy Cavanagh has been selected as one of the Irish Legal 100 in 2018.

The annual list is comprised of some of the most accomplished attorneys in America who have Irish roots. It includes attorneys, legal schools and members of the judiciary. This year’s honorees include United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Georgetown Law Dean William Treanor and U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-PA), among others.

It’s the ninth consecutive year Cavanagh has been honored on the list, which was founded by the Irish Voice newspaper in New York in 2008.

Among Cavanagh’s many accomplishments touted by the newspaper is a landmark $20 million settlement obtained by Cavanagh Sorich Law Group earlier this year in a “code of silence” case involving the Chicago Police Department. An off-duty Chicago detective killed two young men while driving drunk on a freeway in 2009.

The detective had a long history of alcohol-related offenses — including two prior car crashes — but never faced any serious consequences due to the city’s “code of silence.” During a federal court trial, Cavanagh uncovered crucial and damaging evidence that the city had failed to disclose in discovery.

Cavanagh filed a second “code of silence” lawsuit this fall after two men were viciously beaten by an off-duty Chicago police sergeant at a bar on the city’s North Side. Despite damning evidence, including witness testimony and videotaped interviews obtained by Cavanagh Sorich Law Group, the sergeant has yet to be charged. He has a checkered past and lengthy criminal sexual history, but is still on the force collecting more than $105,000 per year.

To date, Cavanagh has obtained more than 60 verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 million. In 2002, his $55 million verdict against the Canadian National Railroad was recognized as one of the top 100 verdicts in the nation by The National Law Journal.

Recent accomplishments include a $7.5 million settlement in 2017 on behalf of a woman who suffered traumatic injuries after being struck by a Metra train, and a $5.9 million settlement in the same year for the family of a man who was killed by a semi-truck leaving a construction site.

Cavanagh is the founding partner of Cavanagh Sorich Law Group, where he focuses on personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death cases. Every year since 2015, Cavanagh has been selected by his peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America©. Cavanagh has also been named a Leading Lawyer by the Leading Lawyers Network every year since its inception in 2003. The honor is limited to the top five percent of lawyers in Illinois. Since 2016, Cavanagh Sorich Law Group has been included in the U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Law Firms list. The firm was given a “Tier 1” ranking.
